Apalling Turn ~ 3

Erica had kept her call with Aadvik on speaker since every other person of the house gathered around the dining table during lunch. It was 1:25 p.m. and Aadvik was returning from Dwarka.

Solo road trips usually get boring so he had called them and as it was the weekend they had been sticking around the phone for the past hour.

"Beta, how long will it take to reach home already?" Aadvik's mom, Shraddha asked. The speaker inside his car couldn't be heard properly as he honked. His mom repeated her question.

"One or two hours maybe. The highway is getting fixed so it might take some time." He replied.

" Drive slowly Aadi, no need to rush. " Niyati managed to speak while she was munching on her not so favourite daal chawal. He chuckled and continued ~
"It will take me 4 days to reach home if I slow down."

"But she is right, Aadvik, don't drive too fast." Erica supported her. Aadvik hummed, too lost to speak.

Loud honking sound reverberated from the speaker of the phone. Not to forget the truck's unpleasant Naagin horn.

"Don't they have a better sound, this Naagin one is getting too old now." Laughter filled the atmosphere at Aadvik's question.
Sure those sounds were annoying.

Niyati picked up her plate and turned towards the kitchen to keep it in the sink. As she came back she heard Aadvik yelling at someone.
"Are you blind or what?" He groaned.

"These people don't even follow traffic rules properly, driving on the opposite side." He taunted.

"Let it be Aadvik, focus on the road" Vijay, Niyati's father said. Niyati came and sat beside Erica. They heard a loud honk and a terrible smashing sound followed.

Everyone fell silent and soon the call disconnected. It took some time for everyone to process what just happened. Niyati was the first one to pick up the phone and call Aadvik.

He didn't pick up, she did the same several times but none of the calls were answered.
Anxiety flooded everyone's heart as it beat with an intense speed.

Niyati called Yashi and asked her to track Aadvik's phone. Every possible outcome flashed through their mind and as soon as the deadliest of them, the thought of something happening to Aadvik came, they shrugged it off.

Niyati's pov:

My legs started shaking as I continued to dial his different numbers. The worst of the outcome scared me. I couldn't think straight for the moment. My whole body felt numb and I felt as if my soul left me.

After sometime of being in the similar state I felt my phone vibrate in my hands. I quickly answered it without looking at the caller id.

"Hello Aadvik, are you alright?" I said absentmindedly.

" Mam, it's me Yashi. Aadvik sir's location is shown near NH-248 BB, near
Gurgaon route." Was heard from the other side. I ended the call and took my car keys and started moving towards the garage.

" Niti, I will come with you. " Erica said and followed me from behind. We immediately sat inside it and drove at a very high speed.

Gurgaon wasn't very far from Delhi, but the construction of roads made it so difficult.  We knew it would take more than 2 hours to reach the location but we couldn't think about anything else at that moment.

After half an hour or so, Erica got a call from a Highway Patrol. They informed us that Aadvik had been taken to a city hospital after a serious accident. I quickly changed the route and entered the city premises.

My hands kept shaking and my mind felt dizzy as I prayed to Kanha for his safety.
Even thinking about losing him felt like a sin. I can't think about that and I won't. He can't leave me. He would never.

It took us another half an hour to reach the hospital. Erica had already informed our parents and they are on their way. Getting out of the car, we quickly collected the information about him being in the ICU from the receptionist.

Immediate surgery had been provided to him. No one would want to lose the life of the gem of India.
The news spread through the media like a forest fire and soon press corps gathered outside the hospital.

Erica and I silently sat there mentally contemplating our thoughts. I started chanting the Hare Krishna mantra, internally begging for his well being and trying to calm my mind down.

Somewhere, I had a strong faith that nothing would happen to him. How could it be? Krishna is there for us, he won't let anything happen to him. I closed my eyes and an image of 8 year old Aadvik flashed in front of my eyes.

"I won't give you any gift this Raksha Bandhan" Aadvik said playfully as I kept devouring his ice cream that he kept secretly, away from me.

"I don't want any gift as well"
I flipped my hair letting them slap on his face softly.
He shrieked as the reflex.

"Really? Why are you being so grateful now after eating my ice cream?" He asked.

"I already have you as the best gift of my life Bhaiyaa, don't worry as long as you are with me I don't want anything else."  I said honestly.

Aadvik, though my twin always acted like a big brother because he was born 5 mins earlier than me. He smiled at me fondly and hugged me tightly.

Guess who's getting another bowl of his ice cream. He didn't name me 'butter' for no reason.

I chuckled very lightly remembering those moments. My eyes were getting red due to frustration that clouded my mind.

It has been 4 hours since we were outside the operation theatre and no news of him. We just watched the nurse rushing in and out of the cabin, ignoring all our calls.

A/N:

Well yeahh, this isn't the best way to end a chapter but the whole chapter had to be divided in two parts since it was turning out to be too long.

Also, things are escalating quickly now and we are very near to the begging of "the saga of devotion"
